Bassett, California — On December 21, 2025, at approximately 5:33 p.m., Industry Station deputies responded to the 500 block of Workman Mill Road, La Puente, regarding a call of a business disturbance. Information provided in the call indicated a Hispanic male transient had entered the employee service area of the business and refused to leave. The male was later identified as 34-year-old Albert Cota. Deputies arrived on scene and observed Cota standing in the doorway of the south patron entrance. As deputies approached, Cota retreated farther into the business near the service counter area.
Deputies told Cota to stop and remove his hands from his pockets; however, he refused to comply. Cota then pulled a handgun from his jacket pocket and pointed it at deputies, at which time a deputy-involved shooting occurred. Cota was struck by gunfire and fell to the ground. Deputies rendered medical aid to Cota until the arrival of Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel. Cota was subsequently transported to a local hospital where he received medical treatment. No deputies or other persons were injured during this incident. One air gun pistol with the inscription “Glock 17,” containing one loaded magazine with unfired 9mm cartridges, was recovered at the scene.
