Gunman standing in busy road and waving weapon around is taken out by police car

The Nassau County Police charged Kiber Calderon with 13 different crimes, ranging from menacing to criminal possession of a weapon, after they waved around a gun in a busy intersection

The police have brought 13 charges against the person who stood in the middle of a Nassau County intersection and waved a gun at passersby and police earlier this week — an incident that went viral after a cop used a police cruiser to take them down.

The charges include two counts of menacing a police officer and three counts of menacing in the third degree as well as several others related to criminal possession of a weapon.

It was a relatively peaceful Tuesday afternoon on Long Island until 31-year-old Kiber Calderon stepped into the middle of the intersection of Jerusalem and Bellmore Avenues in North Bellmore. They raised a gun and started firing it every which way, sometimes taking aim at passing cars.

When the cops arrived at around 2pm, the suspect reportedly brought the gun to their head and refused to follow law enforcement’s instructions to get to the ground.

viral video clip shows them pointing the gun at passersby and then refusing to cooperate with the police.

In response, a cop got into their cruiser and ran the Brooklyn resident, who also goes by the name Hanna Carillo, down.

That officer was following protocol, said Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder, who also said the officer had told him he didn’t want to fire his weapon as there were bystanders in the area who could have been hit by stray bullets.

“The officer made a sound decision, a very good decision, and because of it, they saved the lives of themself, others and the person with that gun,” Ryder told News12.

In general, however, Ryder said that “deadly physical force spurs deadly physical force” in most cases.

While no serious injuries were reported as a result of the incident, the suspect sustained minor ones and the officer who ran them down went to the hospital for trauma.

Calderon will be arraigned as soon as medically possible to face the 13 charges, reported News12. They had been arrested twice before in June in New York City for burglary and trespassing, the police said.
