Buffalo Officer Shoots Woman After She Stabs Man In Head

Buffalo, N.Y. — On September 27, 2025, at approximately 2 a.m., Buffalo Police Officers responding to an “unknown trouble” call encountered a woman armed with a knife and acting aggressively. Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation but the woman did not adhere to commands to drop the knife. As the woman moved toward a group of people known to her, pointing the knife at them, one officer deployed pepper spray. The woman continued advancing and stabbed a man in the head. Another officer then discharged his weapon, striking the woman in the shoulder. Responding officers, members of the Buffalo Fire Department, and Emergency Medical Technicians rendered first aid on scene. Both the man and the woman were taken to ECMC with non-life-threatening injuries. Cynthia Gilbert, 38, has since been arraigned on an indictment charging her with Attempted Murder and Attempted Assault. In October of 2025, upon the conclusion of a thorough review of the incident, Erie County District Attorney Mike Keane determined that the actions of the police officers involved were justified and cleared them of any criminal wrongdoing.
