
Brooklyn, N.Y. — On August 12, 2025, at approximately 7:30 p.m., 22-year-old Edynesson Bauduy was involved in a dispute with another individual in front of 533 Ocean Avenue, Brooklyn. Following the dispute, Bauduy and the other individual both produced firearms and exchanged gunfire with each other. During the exchange of gunfire, Police Officer Lopez and Police Officer Ortiz-Bonilla, who were on routine patrol in a marked NYPD vehicle, arrived at the location and approached Bauduy. As the officers approached Bauduy, he continued to discharge his firearm at the other individual before fleeing on foot. As a result, Police Officer Lopez discharged 16 rounds from his service firearm and Police Officer Ortiz-Bonilla discharged 3 rounds from her service firearm, striking Bauduy. Bauduy was taken into custody and transported via ambulance to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, where he was treated for his injuries. The individual whom Bauduy exchanged gunfire with fled the scene and was later apprehended. For his actions, Bauduy was arrested and charged in federal court with Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person
